Furniture Market Feature and Finds

The Merchandising Team had another FANTASTIC furniture market! For our newer readers, Furniture market is the time of year we order furniture, flooring, accessories and lighting. There are furniture markets all over the country, however, the two largest furniture markets take place in High Point, NC, and Las Vegas, NV.

This Spring, we made our way to High Point, NC, to shop hundreds of thousands of square feet of furniture. Our goal at every market is to find the best looks, for the best value, purchase these items and bring them to the showroom floors at 5th & Main Furniture by Freed’s and Ashley HomeStore.

At every market, certain trends seem to dominant each showroom. When we see a trend at market, we can expect the trend to become popular in our region within 18-24 months. I’m excited to share images and discuss current market trends in this article. It’s important to remember that trends are trends…this doesn’t mean you need to re-do your living room every time a trend hits our market. The key is taking elements of what is trending and mixing these elements with your own, unique style.

The most prevalent trend this market: black and white. Surprisingly, black and white interior design is extremely versatile in style. Looks can be traditional, transitional, contemporary, or modern. Plus, black and white are easy to personalize with the use of your favorite accent colors in accessories, wall art, and area rugs.

Black and white color schemes are transcending all kinds of furniture: living room upholstery, bedroom furniture, dining furniture, accessories and more. White washes and dark, wood stains are making their way onto bedroom sets, dining tables and chairs, occasional tables, credenzas, and more. Although white washes have been on the rise for the last few markets, bright white is now the current trend. Black has always been black—really no changes there. That being said, I feel every room needs a little piece of black; black anchors every space.

Patterns, prints, and solids in black and white fabric is also making its way onto sofas, loveseats, settees, ottomans, accent chairs, and more. Again, what is so interesting about this monochromatic color palette is that any style is possible. Black and white plaid lends itself to a more traditional style. Geometric prints in black and white are contemporary. Prints like chevron in black and white add to a Bohemian style.

Beyond black and white, secondary trends we shopped at Market included retro looks, renewed rustic touches, and rich colors like emerald, rust, and navy. Retro looks are dating further back than mid-century, all the way to the soft silhouettes and lush velvet fabrics of the 1920s. Rustic is being renewed through the application of lighter, worn-in leathers paired with Aztec prints in warm colors. Deep, jewel tones like emerald, navy, and amber making a splash in interior design trends, completely elevating the elegance of whatever space these colors grace with their presence.

Needless to say, we left Market feeling inspired. Beyond inspired, we purchased hundreds of pieces of furniture, accents, area rugs, and lights to bring to our showrooms at 5th & Main Furniture by Freed’s and Ashley HomeStore. New items are arriving daily and we are urging you to come fall in love with all sorts of new goodies waiting for you!
