Our Story

1922

Midwest Furniture opened in Chadron, NE founded by William Boeck.

1958

Henry Freed purchased the business and opened a store in Hot Springs, SD.

1962

Henry Freed expanded to Rapid City by purchasing American Furniture from Cliff Truesdale.

1968

Henry Freed changed the name of the business to Freed’s Fine Furnishings.

1985

Ka and Diane Alberts and Jerry Freed (nephew of Henry), purchased the stores from Henry Freed.

1992

Alberts and Freed opened Furniture Mart in downtown Rapid City.

2006

Alberts and Freed opened Ashley Homestore in Rapid City.

2015

Dustin and Erin Krueger (son-in-law and daughter of Ka and Diane) joined the business.

2017

A devastating fire resulted in a total loss of Freed’s Fine Furnishings on Sturgis Rd.

2018

After the fire, Freed’s changed their business model and split the flooring departments from furniture at both Freed’s Fine Furnishings and Furniture Mart. Both flooring departments were combined into Freed’s Floors, located in Rapid City.
